Quinine (CAS 130 - 95 - 0) is a natural alkaloid extracted from the bark of Cinchona trees. It has a long - standing reputation as one of the oldest antimalarial drugs. As early as the 15th century, the cinchona bark containing quinine was widely used to treat malaria. Its antimalarial mechanism is similar to that of chloroquine, mainly by interfering with the DNA synthesis of Plasmodium parasites, thus inhibiting the erythrocyte stage of various Plasmodium and controlling the onset of malaria symptoms.
